FAQ
No, it does not increase your vehicle's manufacturer-rated towing capacity (GVWR). However, it is designed to support the load by leveling your truck when hauling heavy trailers or payloads. This significantly improves steering, braking, and headlight aim, making your towing experience much safer and more controlled.
"Truck squat" occurs when the rear suspension is overloaded. RETRUE air springs provide up to 5,000 lbs of load-leveling capacity. By adjusting the air pressure, you can level your truck back to its factory height, eliminating sag and preventing the "nose-up" position that compromises front-tire traction.
Yes! Most RETRUE kits are designed for a bolt-on, no-drill installation. They typically utilize existing holes in your truck's frame. A DIYer with basic hand tools can usually complete the install in 2–3 hours. We provide detailed manuals and all necessary hardware in the box.
The recommended operating pressure is between 5 PSI and 100 PSI.
Important: Never run your air bags at 0 PSI. Always maintain at least 5 PSI to prevent the rubber bellows from pinching or chafing when the truck is empty.
Not at all. That’s the beauty of air suspension. When your truck is empty, simply drop the pressure to the minimum 5 PSI. This allows the air springs to remain flexible, maintaining your factory ride quality (or even improving it by absorbing small road vibrations).
RETRUE kits are primarily designed for stock height (4x2 and 4x4) trucks. If you have a suspension lift (e.g., a 4-inch or 6-inch lift), you may need "air bag spacers" to bridge the gap. Please contact our support team with your specific lift and height before purchasing.
Not necessarily. Every kit comes with manual inflation valves (similar to tire valves) that you can mount on your bumper. You can inflate them at any gas station or with a portable pump. However, for maximum convenience, we recommend adding a RETRUE On-Board Air System to adjust your ride height from the cab.
The easiest "pro trick" is the Soapy Water Test. Spray all fittings, air lines, and the bags with a mixture of dish soap and water. If you see bubbles forming, you’ve found a leak. Usually, it’s as simple as pushing the air line deeper into the "push-to-connect" fitting.
Absolutely. Our air springs are made of heavy-duty reinforced rubber and high-strength steel/aluminum brackets. They are tested to withstand temperatures from -40°F to 150°F and are resistant to road salt and debris. For winter maintenance, we recommend draining any moisture from your air lines to prevent freezing.
In most applications, the RETRUE air spring replaces the factory jounce bumper (bump stop). The air bag then acts as a progressive spring, providing much smoother bottom-out protection than the original piece of rubber.
